Election Teams:

Neusalufta ET's serve throughout Sequoyah District. During the past year, we fielded 4 election teams, and were involved in 20 elections.  The results? Fifty youth Candidates elected, and five adult Candidates named.

Each election team consists of three arrowmen and an adult advisor. The arrowmen give a scripted talk to the scouts of the troop about the purposes of the Order, the type of scout we seek, and encourage solemnity and serious deliberation on the occasion. The adult advisor's duties include providing transportation, returning the results of the elections, and acting as liaison between the Scoutmaster and election team.

Showing that you have an aptitude for learning (not required) your scripted part, and an ability to function well before an audience can lead to a much-coveted chance to serve on one of the Ceremonies teams. Neusalufta Arrowmen: if you are interested in being a member of one of our election teams, please contact us and give us your name. Other Chapter members: your Vice-Chief is looking too!

Election Team training is held every year at the Lodge LLD (for Chapter Vice Chiefs of Inductions), at a Chapter meeting in December for the new teams, and also at the Fall Chapter Leadership Development Seminar (to be held at Camp Campbell Va. August 25 - 27th).

Elangomats:

Its the Lenapi word for friend, and that's what we try to be. Elangomats serve as guides for those in their charge during the Ordeal, keeping their efforts organized and directed, seeing to their needs for equipment, food and water, and reminding them of their duties if need be. Under the extended system, elangomats keep in touch with their Clan members, and encourage them to continue to learn about the Order and to seal their membership via the Brotherhood trail.

Neusalufta tries to form Clans of candidates from within our District; however, Lodge policy has been to have elangomats serve across District boundaries as necessary. Thus, Neusalufta elangomats find themselves serving with elangomats from other Chapters, and over Clans of candidates from any Chapter. Last year and this the Chapter was involved in a Lodge experiment to have elangomats serve over Clans formed solely from within our own District. The purpose of the experiment was to see the effect on retention of contact with the Candidates both before and after the Ordeal.

Neusalufta is proud of the contributions it makes to the Lodge in support of the Ordeal. During Spring Inductions, we fielded 14 elangomats, 11 youth and 3 adults, supporting 7 Clans, and during Fall Inductions 5 youth supporting 2 Clans. In addition, Neusalufta Brothers Art F (Lodge Inductions and Ceremonies Adviser), Chris F (Chapter Co-Adviser), Bryan P (Lodge VC Inductions and Ceremonies), Jim M, John M worked at Lodge level, and Laurence C (Chapter VC Inductions and Ceremonies), Stan C (Chapter Inductions and Ceremonies Adviser), Carl M (former Chapter Adviser) and Jonathan N worked in varying capacities at the Chapter level to keep the Ordeal running smoothly.

We are also proud of our arrowmen. The service to the Lodge given by elangomats is best measured by remembering your own Ordeal. Many of our elangomats have repeated that test five or more times.  Neusalufta Arrowmen: if you are interested in being an elangomat, please contact us and give us your name. Other Chapter members: your Vice-Chief is looking too!

Elangomats who undergo training and serve are entitled to wear the Lodge Elangomat Service Patch. Chapter training is offered at the Spring Chapter Leadership Development seminar, and at the Fall Chapter Leadership Development seminar. Additional opportunities for training take place at Conclave, and at NOAC.

Ceremonies Teams:

Neusalufta arrowmen also contribute to the Order by serving on the Chapter's Ordeal, and Brotherhood Ceremonies teams. These are prized positions of service which often see waiting lists and intermediate duties as understudies and torch-bearers. If you have a flair for memorization, a taste for hard work, and if playing a role before an audience is something you dream about though, this is the place to be!

At NOAC 1998, an all-Neusalufta Brotherhood team received Honors recognition for the Lodge. In addition, both Rich G. a Neusalufta brother, and a Eric H., a Niganit brother received Vigil Ceremony Honors recognitions, making Occoneechee the only Lodge in the nation to receive two such honors. In addition, an impromptu Pre-Ordeal team - formed on the bus on the trip to NOAC - received a Superior rating. Our Brotherhood team was asked to teach at this year's Section SR-7B Cardinal Conclave at Camp Bowers.

At NOAC 2000, Neusalufta's team achieved Honors recognition in the Brotherhood Ceremony, and in the Pre-Ordeal Ceremony. We were one of only seven Lodges in the Nation to accomplish this.  Neusalufta Brother Matt C received Merit rating in the Vigil Ceremony. As a Chapter, we have a lot to be proud of, and so do the team members, support crew and advisers. You too can be part of this heritage of excellence: contact your Vice Chief or any Chapter Officer or Ceremonies Team member and ask how!

Responsibilities of the Vice-Chief of Inductions:

Coordinate the induction process within the Chapter.

Represent the Chapter at all Lodge Inductions functions. It is mandatory to attend all Lodge events involving Inductions: Spring Inductions and Fall Inductions. Volunteer as an Elangomat and request as many candidates as possible from our Chapter be in your Clan. Work with the Chief Elangomat at the events. Ensure that the Chapter provides at least one Elangomat for each ten Ordeal candidates.

Make sure all troops in our district have an election, if wanted. Contact the Chapter Advisor immediately if a troop does not want an election for any reason.

Help train the election teams and coordinate all elections. Forward the results of each election, along with the adult nomination, if there is one, to the Chapter Advisor the day after elections are held.

Coordinate the direction of ceremonies for the Call Out, including Spirit of the Arrow booklet No. 1, a letter from the Chief, and details of the Inductions weekend, including dates, a list of what to bring, and a brief description of what to expect.

Submit a report on Elections and Inductions at each Chapter meeting.

Ensure that the Chapter achieves 100% Troop elections.

Work closely with the Vice-Chief of Camping Promotions to include him or a member of his committee with the election teams during Troop visitations.

Work closely with the Advisor, especially during the elections period.
