Dear Ordeal Candidate: Congratulations on your selection as a candidate for membership in the Order of the Arrow!! Your selection by your fellow scouts is indeed an honor. This letter has been prepared especially to tell you all about what you need to know to complete your membership requirements in the Order. You will have two opportunities to complete the membership requirements by participating in an Ordeal weekend at our council camp, Camp Durant. These two dates are: May 18-20, 2001 September 14-16, 2001 If you do not participate in one of these weekends, you must be elected again in order to become a member. You should plan to arrive at camp as close to 6 p.m. on Friday evening as is possible, but definitely before dusk. If there is a problem with this, please contact me at 848-3228 as soon as you can. No Friday evening meal will be served, so eat before you come. The weekend activities will conclude after a brief worship service around 9:00 am on Sunday morning; however, LDS members and others who have similar obligations may leave Saturday night after the Ceremony (around 10 pm.) You will spend the day on Saturday, along with other Ordeal candidates, doing service to the Council Camp. Please bring work gloves and old work clothes for this day activity. If you have loppers or a small bow saw, please bring them also. Chain saws (adults only) will also be needed. Pack as you would for a troop outing. Include your sleeping gear, a tent, flashlight, toilet articles (including soap and towel for showers), and anything else you would normally carry on a troop camping trip. An exception to this is that you do not need to bring cooking or eating gear, as all meals are prepared for you during all OA weekends. Please bring a complete Scout uniform in order to complete the Ordeal. There is a registration fee of $45.00 charged of each Ordeal Candidate. This fee includes: an event patch, four meals and a crackerbarrel, Order of the Arrow dues for the current year, an Order of the Arrow Handbook, an Ordeal sash, and an Ordeal Lodge pocket flap. If you have any questions, have special needs or simply need more information, please feel free to call upon me. I look forward to meeting you and working with you as you begin your journey as an Arrowman. Again, congratulations on your selection as an Order of the Arrow Candidate!!!
